In 2013 I started training for the Boston Marathon. After the bombing I was drawn to the messages of hope, the heartbroken who lost someone or never finished their race after months of training, and the strangers who connected on that fateful day. I vowed to run it for those who couldn't before my 40th birthday.
As I got faster and stronger, I geared up for my qualifying races. But life threw some wrenches... to say the least. 3 weeks before my first qualifier I cracked my tailbone on a dock after scuba diving. I healed and started training again only to lose my father in March of 2014, another few weeks before my next qualifier.
Grief does a lot of things to a person - it wiped me clean of my energy and spark for running. It not only distracted me from my goal, it made me wonder if it was still possible. Then I got pregnant, gave birth via c-section, and realized that training for a qualifying marathon was nothing short of impossible with a baby. That long lost Boston marathon dream died along with my dad.
Fast forward to 2018 - Team Fox received only 5 exclusive charity bibs for the April 2019 race and I'm reviving my dream. And get this - the race is less than 2 WEEKS BEFORE MY 40th BIRTHDAY! It's also merely days after the 5 year anniversary of my father's death so I know this will be an incredibly special race for me.
It's scary to commit to this goal with a 15K fundraising minimum and after being away from running for so long. But I knew as soon as I saw the opportunity that I had to take a leap of faith and do it! Join me as I raise at least 15K for an organization that means so much to me and my family, an org that's taking 100% of your dollars and pushing it towards the urgent research required to help the millions living with Parkinson's disease.
It's been an amazing year transitioning my passions and skills into a staff role for The Michael J. Fox Foundation. Since joining, I've only become more confident that the money we raise together matters, it's going into the right projects and places, and we'll cure this disease in our lifetime.
Thank you for being a part of my team! It means the world to me, my family, and those with Parkinson's disease.
Lots of love,
An estimated five million people worldwide live with Parkinson's today. It is the second most common neurological disorder. In the United States, approximately 60,000 new cases will be diagnosed this year alone. There is no known cure.
Together, we can change this.
Team Fox is the grassroots community fundraising program at The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF). MJFF accelerates high-impact science through smart risk taking and problem solving with a commitment to urgency and efficiency. I’m one of thousands of people around the globe who are turning their passions into Team Fox fundraisers to help them speed a cure for Parkinson’s. When you give today, 100 percent of Team Fox proceeds go straight to MJFF’s programmatic efforts.
Thank you for being part of this team!
