My Parkinson's Fundraiser

Neal Clemens

Neal Clemens

I am running the New York City Marathon to raise money for The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF) to honor the memory of my mother-in-law, Wanda Janson.

She was smart, funny, kind, caring, generous. She insisted on ironing my dress shirts. She taught me that "relaxed" was a fun way to refer to someone that had a drink too many. She canoed with me. She beat me at Scrabble. She overfed me and then tried to make me eat more. She was witty, and loved to use that wit to tease me. And then Parkinson's came and took away these things and so much more.

I'm running to raise money in hopes that other people's stories end differently. I don't want you to get Parkinson's. I don't want anyone you care about to either. And if you or they do, I want to know that it can be cured. Your donations will go a long way toward achieving that goal!

Some things to think about:

An estimated five million people worldwide live with Parkinson's today. It is the second most common neurological disorder. In the United States, approximately 60,000 new cases will be diagnosed this year alone. There is no known cure.

Together, we can change this.

Team Fox is the grassroots community fundraising program at The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF). MJFF accelerates high-impact science through smart risk taking and problem solving with a commitment to urgency and efficiency. I’m one of thousands of people around the globe who are turning their passions into Team Fox fundraisers to help them speed a cure for Parkinson’s. When you give today, 100 percent of Team Fox proceeds go straight to MJFF’s programmatic efforts.

Thank you for being part of this team!

First, it's a huge accomplishment to even train for such a race Neal! Way to go! Honoring Wanda is exceptional. She would be so humbled by that I think. She really had no idea how special she was. I like to think she knows now. We miss her too. Thanks for doing this! Stupid Parkinson's!
