Name of Event: Team Cul de Sac Drink and Draw.
Date of Event: June 16th 2017 Drink and Draw at Heroescon in Charlotte NC
Welcome to the 8th year of Team Cul de Sac! 2016 was a bittersweet year for Team Cul de Sac. We lost our friend and inspiration to PD in July of 2016. To honor Richard we hope to continue to build from the success of previous years until we find a cure.
As I look back on what TCDS has accomplished in almost 8 years I am in awe and very proud of everyone involved. Our next fundraiser is June 16th at Heroescon in Charlotte, NC. Cartoonists will be sketching on coasters which will be immediately auctioned off. An auction of larger art pieces will also take place depending on what is donated.
In 2010, my wife, Jennifer gave my Michael J Foxes book Always Looking Up by Michael J Fox. Before I could finish the book, I had my idea for the fundraiser to honor my friend Richard Thompson. With his permission to forge ahead and the blessings from Lee Salem and Andrews McMeel Publishing things were rolling.
Here is a look back out our totals!
In 2010: $50.00
In 2011: $4000.00
In 2012: TCDS raised over $53,000.00 and we had matching funds to push us over $102,000.00
In 2013: $8570.28
In 2014: $84,295.76
In 2015: $4, 571
In 2016: $27, 818

Chris Sparks, a professional web designer, is leading the Team Cul de Sac (TCDS) fundraising effort in honor of his friend Richard Thompson, the cartoonist behind the Cul de Sac comic strip. Richard has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
With Richard's support, in 2012 TCDS asked cartoonists across the country to draw his characters so the artwork that was compiled into a fundraising book and the artworkwas auctioned to raise additional money. Hundreds of cartoonists responded and sent artwork that was compiled in a book published by Andrews McMeel. You can buy it at most bookstores. The book has cartoons from many of Richard's personal friends including Stephen Pastis (Pearls Before Swine), Sergio Aragones (Mad, Groo), Patrick McDonnell (Mutts), Pat Oliphant (Pulitzer Prize political cartoonist), Dave Kellet (Sheldon, Drive), Gene Weingarten and David Clark (Barney & Clyde), Mason Mastroianni (B.C.), Roger Langridge (Muppet Show comic book, Marvel's Thor: The Mighty Avenger, Fred the Clown), Shannon Gallant (G.I.Joe), Michael Cavna (Washington Post), Steven Artley (Artleytoons), Barbara Dale and Steve Conley (Astounding Space Thrills, Bloop) and even Bill Watterson of Calvin and Hobbes fame. Many other fantastic cartoonists contributed, space doesn't permit us to list them all, but we appreciate everyone's contributions.
