Running the North Pole marathon in memory of my father

Ram Gnanadesikan

On April 16, 2018, Global Running Adventures hosted a marathon of 26.2 miles at the geographic North Pole. I ran and finished the North Pole marathon to honor my father's courageous fight against Parkinson's disease.

Aside from the unique location, it is the only certified marathon distance that is run entirely 'on' water – the frozen water of the Arctic Ocean. The North Pole marathon was my marathon # 101. I chose to raise funds for “Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research”.

Five million people worldwide are living with Parkinson’s disease — a chronic, degenerative neurological disorder. In the United States, 60,000 new cases will be diagnosed this year alone. There is no known cure for Parkinson’s disease. But through your support of Team Fox, you can help change this. By donating today, you can become positively associated with supporting this just cause.

Team Fox is the grassroots community fundraising program at The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF). MJFF accelerates high-impact science through smart risk taking and problem solving with a commitment to urgency and efficiency. I’m one of thousands of people around the globe who are turning their passions into Team Fox fundraisers to help them speed a cure for Parkinson’s. When you give today, 100 percent of Team Fox proceeds go straight to MJFF research programs. I personally paid for my marathon entry fee, flight, hotel and other running gear expenses.

Thank you for your contribution to find a cure for Parkinson's disease.
