Welcome to My Page

Fred Weil

Two years ago, we organized the first Park to the Nott Ride to Fight Parkinson's in memory of my father, Otto Weil, a remarkable man who suffered from Parkinson's Disease for more than 25 years. Please go to his Tribute Page (https://www.michaeljfox.org/tribute/tribute-page.php?id=19246&np=false). I want to share what I know of my father’s life, not just because it was unusual, but because of what his story of humility and perseverance teaches us about the best in the human spirit. There are over five million people worldwide who are living with Parkinson’s disease — a chronic, degenerative neurological disorder. In the United States, 60,000 new cases will be diagnosed this year alone. There is no known cure for Parkinson’s disease. Due to the generosity of all who contributed the first two years of this ride, we have raised more than $26,000 for the Michael J. Fox Foundation's cause. With your help and support of Team Fox and Team Union this year, we hope to creep closer to our overall goal of $100,000, and make a difference in the fight against this debilitating disease.

Now, something about the ride. You don’t have to be an A-Rider. I’m not. This is a ride, not a race. You can join us for any part of the ride, whether a mile, five miles, or one morning/afternoon, one day, or the entire 3 day event. Or, you can make a donation (no amount is too small). There is a third alternative - you can do both. Ride and donate. All are welcome to bike with us.
The ride is staged over 3 days (about 60 miles each day, with plenty of stops for rest and therapy). We start the morning of Thursday, May 17 2018, at the Tavern On The Green in Central Park, NYC, and we finish on Saturday, at the Nott Memorial at Union College, Schenectady, NY. In plotting the route I considered not only the distance, but also safety and scenery, with an emphasis on minimizing hills. The ride includes portions of the following bike trails: the Hudson River Greenway, the John Kiernan Nature Trail, the South and the North County Trailways, the Dutchess Railtrail, and the Mohawk Hudson Bikeway. The first morning’s stage ends at DD's Diner on Route 9 in Ossining. After lunch, we continue to Fishkill, NY, for bed rest. The morning of the second day we head to Rhinebeck (lunch at Matchbox Cafe). Then, on to Catskill, NY, for the night. On the last day of the ride, we head out to Slingerlands, NY (lunch at Emma Cleary's Cafe on Route 85). From there, 24 miles to the Nott Memorial in Union College. For the first two days, the route is close to the Metro North and Amtrak lines. And Amtrak stops within walking distance of Union College. You can see the detailed route at plotaroute.com/route/157252. If you intend to join us in any portion of the ride, please let me know at fweil@optonline.net, so that I can provide you with any updates.
Please join us as a rider and/or as a contributor. Together, we can make a difference.
Thanks to all,
Fred Weil
