"Hope is Informed Optimism" - MJF

Amar Kuchinad

Hope.

We all know it's not a strategy, but how else to explain the sheer insanity of deciding to try to run 100 miles in the Colorado mountains?

Is it the inspirational leadership of friends like Bret Parker, Bill Bucklew, and Jimmy Choi, who routinely #doepicshit while kicking Parkinson's ass? Or is it the men and women at the Michael J. Fox Foundation - scientists, fundraisers, and all-around amazing human beings - who are focused everyday on finding a cure for PD and putting themselves out of their jobs and the Foundation out of business? Or is it Michael, who embodies the Foundation's optimistic spirit and who has often spurred Team Fox runners into the finish of the NYC Marathon from his usual cheer spot on 5th Avenue? (Through the haze of the bonk, my brain tells my legs, "If he can deal with Parkinson's everyday, shouldn't I be able to deal with something as trivial as running through the last 3 miles?")

Whatever the reasons, it's happening. On August 17th (and part of the 18th), I will be running the Leadville Trail 100 race for Team Fox. I am hoping to raise $100,000 in the process, 100% of which will go towards MJFF's mission to find a cure for Parkinson's Disease.

Over the next 100 days, I will be posting updates on Instagram with info on the race, training, the friends who have agreed to crew and pace, and more. Follow me on @akuchinad. I'll take all the help I can get, virtual and IRL.

Five million people worldwide are living with Parkinson’s disease — a chronic, degenerative neurological disorder. In the United States, 60,000 new cases will be diagnosed this year alone. There is no known cure for Parkinson’s disease. But through your support of Team Fox, you can help change this.

Team Fox is the grassroots community fundraising program at The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF). MJFF accelerates high-impact science through smart risk taking and problem solving with a commitment to urgency and efficiency. I’m one of thousands of people around the globe who are turning their passions into Team Fox fundraisers to help them speed a cure for Parkinson’s.

Thanks in advance for your support.
