Kelly Runs 2019! (plus Putt-Putt & other assorted insanity)

Kelly Maccioli

Welcome to Kelly Runs 2019 & Putt-Putt!

Come join us for Putt-Putt for Parkinson's, August 4th, 2019. 10am-Noon at Trombetta's Farm! All proceeds go to Team Fox and directly to research!

In 2016 I took on the challenge of training for, and running, my first marathon. Not only did I finish my first at the Gate City Marathon in Nashua, NH but I went onto run a second one, the Manchester City Marathon in November! And I ran them both as a member of Team Fox raising $2400 for Parkinson's Research. Also together, with Bridget and Megan, we also took on a St Patrick's Day 5k, a Color Run and the Superhero 5k raising a combined total of $3000!

In 2018 I started with a grueling race at the Maine Coast Marathon and in the fall I was honored to run the Chicago Marathon with a Team Fox bib! Meeting all my teammates, pushing my fundraising (we raised over $12,000!) and just being a small part of the team was an amazing experience - one that I cannot wait to repeat! That being said, Kevin and I spent A LOT of time traveling this past year (which was AWESOME!!!) and in 2019 I'd like to be more of a homebody. So this year . . . .

I'm setting my goal to cover 2019 miles (MILES!!) in 2019. That's an average of 5.5 miles a day or 39 miles a week, which is most definitely an increase for me. It will be a challenge for sure, especially without a big amazing marathon to look forward to, but one that I am looking forward to nonetheless. If nothing else, I will certainly get to see what I'm really made of! I will continue to race throughout 2019, mostly "local races in pretty places" to keep things interesting. I've got my eyes on a 20 miler down the New England coastline, plus Bridget, Megan and I are already signed-up for another Bubble Run over the summer, and I'm sure there will be more to come.

Most of you reading this already know that about 7 years ago now, my mother was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. We were all in Italy on a whirlwind trip of a lifetime, when mom was realizing that she just couldn't keep up with the rest of us, as she used to. She was more tired than she should have been and just didn't feel like herself. About 4 months after returning to the States, after numerous tests and doctors visits, she was given the Parkinson's disease diagnosis.

At the time we knew nothing about the disease, and due to the nature of the disease I can't actually say that we know a lot more now. We know how it affects Mom and we have a much better idea of what will help her continue her life, now with Parkinson's. We also know that it presents differently from person to person. Not everyone will experience the same symptoms or the symptoms to the same degree.

Mom is doing well, she's still working, and spending lots of time at the beach, and playing with her grandchildren. But the disease continues to progress. She is working with a few doctors to help keep her symptoms at bay, but that's all she can do at the moment. There is no cure, and there is nothing on the market that will slow the disease. That's where Team Fox and the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research comes in. They are dedicated to researching, developing, and ultimately finding a CURE!

Over the past 7 years I've actually seen the research go from the lab and into my mother's doctor's office. Also, as a Team Fox athlete 100% of the money I raise goes directly to that research. I don't know of too many charities that can say either of those things.

Bridget, Megan and I have been running as Team Fox athletes for the last 4 years, and I am proud to be taking on the personal challenge of 2019 miles for the year 2019!

Thank you so much for reading and donating! No amount is too small, and every little bit helps! Help us speed a cure for Parkinson's Disease.

Best - Kelly

Five million people worldwide are living with Parkinson’s disease — a chronic, degenerative neurological disorder. In the United States, 60,000 new cases will be diagnosed this year alone.

There is no known cure for Parkinson’s disease. But through your support of Team Fox, you can help change this.

Team Fox is the grassroots community fundraising program at The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF). MJFF accelerates high-impact science through smart risk taking and problem solving with a commitment to urgency and efficiency. I’m one of thousands of people around the globe who are turning their passions into Team Fox fundraisers to help them speed a cure for Parkinson’s. When you give today, 100 percent of Team Fox proceeds go straight to MJFF research programs.
