On Saturday August 8th, 2020 I will be attempting to break the world record for the number of Hand release, chest to ground burpees in 1 minute. The current record is 28 and I believe I can beat that number!
Living with Parkinson's sucks and most will agree that burpees suck. So why not raise awareness and funds by doing something that sucks while living with something that sucks? I want to earn your donations, and I want to show that I will fight on as long as I can until we find that disease modifying treatment. At the same time, I hope to motivate you to do something hard everyday - so that when life gets hard, you've already experience harder... Parkinson's or no matter what you are dealing with.
Why a burpee? As a person living with Parkinson's, I fall. I fall a lot. A few years back I started to do burpees because I looked at that movement as a way to practice a controlled fall and building strength to get back up. In the event I do take a fall, this training should better prepare me to brace for impact and get back up to fight again.
What is a chest to ground burpee? It is a burpee where my chest must rest on the ground and my hands must be lifted off the ground and extended fully out to the side to ensure a full stop on the ground before pushing myself up to a full extended jump. Try it out! Join me!
If you try these, let me know how many you can do! Post a video on social media and tag me along with the hastag #outburpeepd and encourage your followers to try the same! As usual, 100% of all donations will go directly to research so you WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE!
We will be live streaming this event on Facebook Live on Saturday August 8, 2010! Please stay tuned for updated start time and event info!
Five million people worldwide are living with Parkinson’s disease — a chronic, degenerative neurological disorder. In the United States, 60,000 new cases will be diagnosed this year alone.
There is no known cure for Parkinson’s disease. But through your support of Team Fox, you can help change this.
Team Fox is the grassroots community fundraising program at The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF).
