Sometimes you have a feeling that you are meant to do something, and you just gotta do it. For me, that feeling came about a year ago. I had been living with young-onset Parkinson’s Disease (PD) for 15 years. I underwent deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery, and -- almost miraculously -- I had more energy and fewer debilitating symptoms. Though I will live with PD for the rest of my life, for now I feel blessed beyond measure that the surgery was successful. It’s time to put that energy to work for others who live with this terrible disease.
With that as a background, I’m inviting you to join in Pittsburgh’s first fundraiser to benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation. The Foundation is single-mindedly devoted to finding a cure, and 100% of Team Fox proceeds go to research programs. I am convinced that they are closer than ever to accomplishing this mission, and want to do my part. So . . . we are starting the MOVE IT 100-Day Challenge, a virtual exercise program which kicks off on January 1st, and culminates with a celebratory picnic at North Park’s Rose Barn on Saturday, May 21st, 2022.
We all know that exercise is powerful medicine for those with Parkinson’s Disease (and without). MOVE IT Is designed to inspire you to take your New Year’s resolution to the next level, by committing to moving 100 days between January 1st and May 21st. It doesn’t matter what activity you do – that is up to you. What does matter is that you get moving for 100 days, and raise money for a good cause.
Join our team!
Set your activity goal for 100 days. Some examples:
Walk your dog five times/week
Dance in your living room for 15 minutes every weekday
Stretch before you get out of bed every day
Kayak, box, pickle ball, biking, yoga – you pick the activity!
Ask your family and friends to support you with donations.
