Welcome to My Page

Bill Brown

Thanks for visiting my web page! It’s hard to believe that this will be my fifth-year fundraising with The Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF) for Parkinson’s Research. MJFF is the leading funding organization for Parkinson's research and they’ve been wonderful to work with. I’ve been overwhelmed and humbled by the level of support we’ve received. In four years, Ski for Parkinson’s has raised over $300,000! 2020 was also a year that saw major advances in research to find a cure to Parkinson’s Disease. All of this has me excited for another year in this endeavor.

Those of you who know me know how much I enjoy endurance activities: rowing, kayaking, biking, running, hiking and skiing. Imagine my surprise when I was diagnosed with Parkinson's almost six years ago. My dad also had Parkinson's, and he always had a positive attitude and worked hard to minimize the effects of the disease and supported those researching for a cure. He was a great role model in so many ways!

One of the best things a person can do to minimize the effects of Parkinson's is exercise and that's what I plan on doing between January and March 2021. Since COVID has impacted everything including the Worldloppet ski races, I’ve had to adapt my plans for this racing season. It will be the year of virtual ski races. I'm going to ski 6 virtual Worldloppet Nordic ski races to raise money for Parkinson's research. The Worldloppet series consists of the biggest and best races in twenty countries around the world and this year several them have had to cancel their normal races but have created virtual races. For the virtual races, skiers complete the race in their own country and send in the results. I'll be skiing the following virtual races:

- Australia Kangaroo Hoppet (42 km)
- China Vasaloppet (50 km)
- Japan Sapporo Ski Marathon (25 km)
- Canada Gatineau (25 km)
- American Birkebeiner (43 km)
- Estonia Tartu Marathon (31 km)

That's 216 km (134 miles.) Skiing is tougher with Parkinson's but it's something I love doing and hopefully I can also help raise needed funding for important research.

Will you please join me in this effort by making a donation for every kilometer I ski? I've made the first donation! Thanks to a generous foundation, every dollar I raise will be matched dollar for dollar up to $25,000! Additionally, this year 100% OF MONEY RAISED BY TEAM FOX GOES TO RESEARCH.

I really appreciate your joining me in this endeavor. Together we can make a difference.

Thank you very much,
Bill
